The Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program is a federal fund allocated county by county based on the US Census count of individuals living in poverty. Each county has a local board that helps determine the distribution of these funds to nonprofits and public organizations meeting the food and shelter needs in each county. Phases are issued normally on an annual basis, with emergency and disaster circumstances leading to occasional additional funding.
Any nonprofit, faith-based organization or local government agency that provides food and shelter services may apply for funds in the current phases. Previous EFSP participation is not a requirement. Interested agencies must submit an application to the Local Board in the jurisdiction where they are providing services.
Contact information for each Local Board can be found below. Information for current phases and open applications can be found here. Please send application documents or questions to the corresponding contact for the county your organization serves. Additional informational documents include: EFSP Eligible Costs Table, EFSP Eligible Program Costs, EFSP Program Changes, and EFSP Manual.
